The fact that two-thirds of our warm blue planet is covered by water is often lost on those that live away from an ocean, lake or quarry. We see all the wonders of what lies above with little thought of what lies below. Add the fact that those waters may be warm, clear and relaxing and it only make sense that that is where you would like to be. But, past floating and relaxing on the surface, what beauty and wonders really lie below? To find out what other wonders our garden planet offers, all one needs to do is learn about the sport of snorkeling. It’s safe, relaxing and opens up wonders to behold.
A world away
If you are stuck in a 9 to 5 office job, learning to snorkel will offer a trip to a planet you never new existed. If you do it up right, it will also introduce you to new people, places and relaxing traditions that are in place because people are the same wherever you go. They want fun and relaxation. Getting started can be as easy as buying a mask and swim fins for your back yard pool, but to really get going ask your local sporting goods associate about snorkeling locations and a leason or two.
The art of power relaxing
Truly experiencing the wonders of snorkeling means that you will need to “suck it up” and head for a warm stretch of sand or lakeside cottage. Remarkable and colorful snorkeling spots dot the globe with just about all having a beautiful setting to go along with them. What is truly beautiful, however, is what lies below the surface. There are color combinations that you would never have thought of, living animals that bare no resemblance to the two or four legged beasts above and a certain freedom from the rigors of gravity. Oddly enough, the more relaxed you are when snorkeling the easier it becomes.
Swimming with the fishes
If you’re a fan of the Soprano’s, swimming with the fishes may have a different meaning. But, if you think snorkeling, it takes on a totally different meaning. Consider a leisurely pace of kicking on the surface followed by a quick dip under the surface. Chase a yellow and purple fish or go for a dolphin ride, Toney Soprano has nothing on this.
Little convincing needed
Cutting to brass tacks, you already know what you really want from your snorkeling adventure. Nobody with an ounce of relaxation potential would refuse the total snorkeling experience. Just think: warm, sand, bikini, bright colors and nothing in the world to worry about. One hour or two weeks, it’s all you need to become whole again.
Little experience necessary
One of the best parts about snorkeling is that it requires little experience. A lesson or two is always a good idea, but if you can figure out how to splash your legs in the water you’re almost there. If you don’t feel like you have swimming ability, use a float vest and stay on the surface until you feel comfortable enough to take a dive. And you will once you see what lies below you. Lost ship wrecks, swaying coral of all shapes and sizes and fish that you’d rather take a snap shot of then eat. Learning to snorkel will show you a new and wondrous world, and the amenities that go with it aren’t all that bad either.
